TEACH & WORK AT KIPP

In Your School

At the heart of KIPP NYC Professional Development is the relationship between coach and teacher. All teachers, whether in their first or 21st year, have weekly one-on-one sessions with an instructional coach during which they discuss unit and lesson plans, student assessment data, classroom culture, and areas of professional curiosity. This focused and practical back-and-forth is full of candid and productive conversations about your growth. You’ll also receive support from a regional Teaching Learning Support (TLS) team that’s dedicated full-time to ensuring our teachers have both the tangible resources and intangible knowledge and skills to foster student achievement. In addition to grade team meetings and content meetings, there will be semi-monthly PD sessions for whole school collaboration and alignment.

Data

Data is key to tracking student growth and guiding our instruction. We recognize that collecting and analyzing data is time consuming, so our schools block out Data Days throughout the year. This time is used exclusively to share and reflect upon student performance data and consider how we should modify what we do to better meet the needs of our KIPP students.

TEACH & WORK AT KIPP

The KIPP NYC Region

We kick off each school year with a week of KIPP NYC Professional Development. The goal of that time is to dive into curriculum – sharing best practices and feedback on lesson plans, unit designs, and common assessments. New staff members are immersed in KIPP culture – complete with chants, veteran teacher panels, and “Joy-Factor” activities. Throughout the school year, teachers gather one afternoon each month for regional PD with targeted training, deliberate practice, and collaborative conversations.

The National KIPP Network

As part of a national network of 281 KIPP schools, we leverage the experience of thousands of colleagues across the country and benefit from the research and support of the KIPP Foundation. Our teachers have access to KIPP Share, an online platform that fosters collaboration. It’s a growing treasure trove of material that makes our teaching better and our lives easier.
