We provide a rigorous academic program and a variety of co-curricular activities that build character and support our learning goals. Our KIPPsters participate in a world-class music program and can try out for our award-winning debate team, dance, or sports including basketball, soccer, and track. Our diverse approach enables students to develop new skills and interests and to build character strengths that benefit their academic and life preparation.

To ensure that all our students are Always Mentally Prepared (AMP), we provide students a rigorous college-preparatory program based on Common Core standards and best practices shared with KIPP schools across the country. Our passionate commitment to getting our students to read and write on or above grade level is evident in every classroom and conversation we have with students.

Many of our AMP students learn to play an instrument and participate in a music program that centers on the rich history of jazz. The school’s Legacy Jazz Ensemble regularly performs at events throughout the city and has attended the Newport Jazz Festival every year since 2008. KIPP AMP’s award-winning debate team competes in the New York City Urban Debate League. In 2012, they placed first in the New York City competition and were finalists in the New York State Debate tournament. Students also participate in various athletic outlets. Competitive football, basketball, volleyball, track and field, and soccer are offered at various times throughout the school year.

One of the many community connections we treasure at AMP is our “It Takes a Village” program, an academic intervention and character leadership initiative we designed to ensure that our young men are academically on track. Our doors are always open to parents, guest speakers, and community leaders who partner with us to drive student achievement, health, and happiness.
