10 Reasons You Should Work at KIPP NYC

1. 51% Character/49% Academics. We believe character education is as important to our students’ success as the development of their academic skills. We devote time to our students’ character growth every day and track our progress.

2. We are “K-16.” We don’t stop at high school graduation. After you and your colleagues have prepared your students for college, our KIPP Through College team grabs the baton. Their exclusive daily focus: helping hundreds of KIPP NYC alumni prepare for, succeed in, and graduate from college.

3. You’re worth it. We work hard to attract exceptional teachers, we value their work, and believe they should be well compensated. When you work at KIPP, you’ll earn 20% more than you would in traditional NYC public schools.

4. We let our teachers teach. We guide, equip, and empower you to do what you do best. We foster an environment that encourages collaboration among colleagues. We provide you with individualized instructional coaching, assessment resources, and the best curriculum materials used by successful teachers. But, ultimately you are in control of your classroom.

5. Your team has your back. Your KIPP NYC colleagues inside and outside the classroom will hold themselves and all students to the same high expectations you do.

6. We know we can’t do it alone. It’s a rare student who can achieve academic success without strong support at home. Our students’ families are meaningful partners in our work. Their engagement and support are essential and we work hard to earn it.

7. Materials and resources bring your ideas to life. Your innovation and imagination are backed by access to the supplies, manipulatives, materials and educational technologies you need to support your work and creativity in the classroom.

8. Our students aren’t the only ones learning. You’ll be part of a national network of 3,000 KIPP teachers who participate in professional learning communities, leadership development programs, and extensive resource-sharing.

9. Make a difference beyond your classroom. Over the years, our most effective practices and innovations have been adopted across the KIPP network (109 schools and growing). Thousands of students, for example, are using a math curriculum authored by our teachers here in New York City. It feels great to know that our work makes a difference not only to our students, but also to many others nationwide.

10. Playtime is included. We celebrate our success at KIPP NYC just as hard as we work for results.

In the next five years, we will need over 500 teachers and school leaders.
