KIPP NYC Expansion
Within the next four years, KIPP NYC will open a high school and four elementary schools to provide students a seamless kindergarten through 12th grade KIPP NYC experience, serving over 2,700 students and alumni. These new schools will be based on our fundamental promise to do whatever it takes for our students to learn!
KIPP NYC Elementary Schools
In 2009, KIPP NYC will open the first two of four elementary schools. The schools will offer kindergarten to 80 students and will add a grade each year, growing to serve 400 students in grades K-4 across the four schools by 2013. Every year, KIPP NYC middle schools have welcomed a new class of fifth graders, many of whom come to school two to three years behind grade level in math and literacy; therefore, a great deal of time in middle school must be spent on remediation. While KIPP NYC middle schools have been successful in preparing their students for the upper grades, more can be done. KIPP NYC Elementary Schools provide a chance for students to begin their educational journey with the strongest foundation possible, allowing them greater success and advancement in higher grades and a much better chance to overcome many of the obstacles they face as children of low-income families.
KIPP NYC High School
In 2009, the KIPP NYC High School will open to serve students from all four KIPP middle schools in New York City. In the first year, it will serve 200 ninth graders, growing to serve 800 students at full scale. Seeking to replicate the success achieved by KIPP NYC middle schools, the KIPP NYC High School aims to be one of the highest-performing high schools in New York City.
